Urban refuges

2010-2011

L. Andreotti, X. Wronda

ENSAPLV

This workshop aimed to initiate a discussion on the concept of refuge in urban areas. Following the theoretical framework of the International Situationist writings and the reflections concerning the hospitality of public space, we were asked to draw a refuge with a footprint of up to 3m by 3m located in a poor suburb of Paris.

We had identify a huge lack of decent housing in this area which is combined with crowed streets. Our idea was to use Paris roofs as a location for our refuges. Paris roofs are inhabitated places that benefits from perfect conditions: light, calm, amazing views. We decided to start the roofs colonization by the flat roof of a school.
